Taking a Stand
$10.95....A Study of the First Six Chapter of the Book of Daniel By Frank Beck & Patricia Chadwick “Taking A Stand: A Study of the First Six Chapters of the Book of Daniel” is a great resource for any Christian, women included! I know this is not a Women’s History title, but the life of Daniel is so extraordinary, I feel we can all benefit from reading it. “Taking a Stand” is about the life of the Biblical Daniel and how he lived a life committed to his God, even though he was ripped from his family when he was a mere teenager. This book will show you how you, too, can live a life pleasing to God amidst life pressures they face today. Anyone who is seeking to live a committed Christian life is involved in all-out spiritual warfare. In this life, it is absolutely necessary to stand by our convictions. But how does a committed believer battle life's pressures? There is a constant barrage of isolation, indoctrination, pressure to compromise, and confusion. How do we handle these? Much of the book of Daniel reminds us about the spiritual warfare that underlies human history. It is a story about a man who lived an exemplary life in the midst of this warfare. For 23 years, between the ages of 17 - 90, Daniel had been under constant pressure from a pagan society in which he was forced to live day in and day out. When faced with the pressures of living in that society, Daniel always stood firm in his convictions and continued to live his life based on commitment to God. “Taking a Stand” takes a look at the first six chapters of the book of Daniel where we are challenged by the life of Daniel himself to take a stand for our Lord in our own day and in our own daily situations, even when being the only one standing is not easy or comfortable.

For Such a Time as This
If you were on the church council in the days of early church history and were trying to decide whether the Book of Esther should be included in the cannon of Scripture, how would you have voted? Esther is certainly a unique book in the divine library of Books called the Bible. It is the only book in all of the Bible where there is no direct reference to God. There is also no mention of religious terms such as prayer, worship, etc., in the entire book. And yet, though God is nowhere mentioned in the book of Esther, he is present and working everywhere in the book. Behind each scene in the Book of Esther you can see the shadow of the Almighty directing from the wings. Although we never actually hear or see God in the story, we have an overwhelming sense of confidence that He is just off-stage, cuing the characters and orchestrating the drama to preserve His people from a tragic ending. The Book of Esther is often like the dramas played out in our lives. Seldom when enemies are on our heels are our Red Seas parted. Seldom when disaster is at our door are we warned by angelic visitors. Seldom when we are in need of direction are we instructed God from a burning bush. And neither was Esther. It is easy to see God in the miraculous, but it is not so easy to see Him in the mundane. However, that is where most of us live. We live without seeing handwriting on the wall or hearing thunder from Sinai. We live without God at center stage, but with God directing unobtrusively from the wings of our lives. This is all the more reason why we need to be sensitive to God’s voice; so we can be aware and attentive to the subtle ways in which He works. No book will sharpen our spiritual senses more than the Book of Esther.
